Cookery Books

Every Christmas Jamie buys me a new cook book. A subtle hint or what? Usually it's the cook book of the TV chef I'm currently watching (I love to watch cookery shows). So as I put this year's Nigella on the kitchen shelf along side the other 17 books, I decided I would start actually using those books. So at least once a week now I pick a recipe to try out. To get Jamie into the spirit I started straight in the dessert sections with relative success - in the last couple of weeks he's been treated to white chocolate mouse and little chocolate pots. All made from scratch!
Last week's recipe test was "cullen skink" and I've never made anything that looked so much like the picture in the book (yes, I was so chuffed with myself I even took a pic).

This is going to receive a little tick on the book, it was easy to make and very tasty (it's basically a smoked haddock and potato stew). Tried, tested and recommended.

A quiet January

It's been a slow month in Blarney. We haven't done much in 2008 yet and I'm not sure if out of pure boredom Jamie got the razor to his face last weekend. This is my first time seeing him without hair on his face. While it's great to be kissed by a smooth face for a change I think I'll encourage him in his plan to leave the hair grow again.

New Year

He ain't heavy

He's my brother.........and brother in law and sister and niece and nephew and cousin and mother in law and son and daughter and mother and father.......

We had a fine party to welcome in 2008 which even had a press conference and I'd say there aren't too many people can boast they had a press conference in the middle of a family party!
