Wish you were here.

Awesome! That's the only word to describe the Roger Waters concert we attended tonight.

Kay had managed to obtain a pair of free tickets to the Marquee in Cork for the above mentioned Artist. Now I can't claim to have been a massive fan of Pink Floyd but I knew a few of their tracks and the ticket was free (well, I am Scottish!) so why not? One of the best decisions I've ever made.

The whole show was amazing from start to finish. The guys performing didn't play their instruments, they caressed and enticed the music out of them. Roger Waters was truly phenomenal, both on Bass guitar and as lead vocal. If this is how the guy performs at 62 he must have been something to experience in his prime. Even when the power went out half way through the gig he wasn't fazed, a true master of his craft.

My only personal disappointment was I only new a handful of his tracks so was unable to completely immerse myself in every song. The tracks I did know, however, were belted out by me with total enthusiasm, though infinitely below the standard of the magician on stage. Shine on you crazy Diamond, Comfortably numb, and Wish you were here were all given the treatment. The finale was fantastic with Roger drawing the crowd on through the Wall like the pied piper leading the children to paradise.

Awesome, fantastic, amazing, none of these adjectives are over the top. I may not have been a big fan before but I can honestly say that tonights performance blew me away and you can bet I'll know every word of every song next time!

World Cup intermission

I don't think the Bookies will be losing sleep over my "dark Horse" predictions, The Czech republic dissapeared faster than a Scotsman at a charity do!

One week to go until summer holidays. This weekend should be a practice run for the main event when we all descend on Kilkee for the evening. Jimmy and Joan (AKA Big Jock and Miss Ellie) are having a party for their 50th wedding anniversary. All the usual suspects will be in attendance so expect the usual BS to be spoken as the night goes on and the Guiness goes down.

Congratulations to Jimmy and Joan on a wonderful achievement and i look forward to a great evening.LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!

A little party joke to get you in the mood

A man was sound asleep on a rainy night and was aroused from his sleep by a drunk pounding on his door at 3:00 AM.
His wife says, "Answer the door!".
So he begrudgingly gets up and goes to the door. The guy, slurring his words and obviously drunk says, "I need a push!".
The man says, "It's 3:00 AM. No! I can't help you." And he slams the door. He goes back to bed. And his wife says, "What was that all about?"
The man says, "It was a drunk. He wanted a push. I sent him packing. It's 3 o'clock in the morning. I'm not about to out in the rain at this hour!"
The wife reminded him that they had been in a similar situation and that at about the same hour in the morning, they pounded on a door and got the help they needed. She shamed him and, feeling guilty, he got back up, put on his pants and raincoat and went outside. The guy was nowhere to be seen.
He hollered, "Do you still need help?" "Hey buddy, do you still need a push?"
Off in the distance, he hears a slurred response, "Yeah! I still need a push."
The man says, "Where are you?"
The drunk responds, "I'm over here on the swing!"

World cup (Cont.)

Its been two weeks of constant football since Germany kicked off the latest world cup and we've had 3 matches every day, non-stop coverage in the media, and discussions and analysis from every person you meet. You can't open a newspaper, switch on the radio or TV, or even stand in the queue of the local shop without hearing the names Ronaldinho, Rooney, or Zidane. This really is over the top and it has to stop! Yeah, right! I love it.

The best game so far? Argentina against Serbia and Montenegro certainly, IMO, had the greatest world cup goal ever. 24 passes followed by a sweet finish, Superb! But for sheer entertainment, Ghana against the Czech republic had everything. An early goal, sending off, missed penalty, World class goalkeeping, and a shock result in the end (So much for my tip, the Czechs went from dark horses to donkeys!). The USA were very unlucky against the mighty Italians and should have won. A great performance nevertheless.

I could go on all day but suffice to say this world cup has been truly outstanding and, should it continue in this vein, will be up there with Argentina 78 as the best world cup I've ever seen.

TV Heaven

A whole month of live international football on the telly. Paradise!
The world cup is truly the greatest show on earth. What a pity neither Scotland or Ireland will be there. Still magnificent to watch though. From the truly exciting and mesmerising skills of the mighty Brazilians, to the efficient and athletic prowess of the Germans. There'll be great goals, goalkeeping brilliance, tension, bad refereeeing, the lot.

I would love to see a new name on the cup and the czech republic could be the dark horses, however, if I could get just one wish granted it would be for ENGERLUND TO GET STUFFED EVERY GAME!

It truly is the beautiful game.
